The Quahog Mile

The Quahog Mile...sounds interesting, right?

This is my newest race and I thought I would highlight it here, in this blog, that 10 people read.

The main purpose of this race is for people to run fast!  An opportunity for people to run a fast mile and a fast mile that is not all downhill.

If you are familiar with the 5k course in Goddard Memorial State Park, then you will be familiar with the course I am using for The Quahog Mile.

The race will start at the 1 mile mark of the 5k course and will run in reverse from the 1 mile mark to the starting line.  That means that the course is FAST.  It is basically flat with a fast last 300 meters.

Look at that finish!

Here are some of the race details.

Entry:  Pre-Registration until 5/8/14 – $10  - Day of registration $20

Pint glasses to the first 125 entries

Awards:
Top 5 Male/Female Overall  - Minimum Prize fund of $300/$150/$100/$50/$25
More entries equals more PRIZE MONEY! so spread the word!

And of course there will be team awards!

Please help out and spread the word...I am hoping for a good turn out and the more people that register the more fun the race will be.

Rhode Island "Sea to Summit" Training Run

On 3/3/13 I joined 6 other runners for the 1st Annual? running of the Rhode Island Sea to Summit Run.  Mike Galoob had mentioned this concept to me a couple of months ago, but when his much anticipated Big River 1/2 Marathon was postponed because of snow, this group run was quickly assembled.  Maps were emailed back and forth until finally Mike came up with the "perfect route" well...the shortest I guess.

I have always been a big fan of point to point adventure type runs, I have recently run from the Connecticut Border to the Narragansett Beach and have pieced together the NST with multiple 20-30 mile runs.  When you throw in a fun group of runners the run is that much more fun, like last year's Epic Trail Run that Dave Dunham put together.

I got to the meeting spot a bit early and added on about 2.5 miles as I was looking at getting about 50 miles for the weekend, running 20 the day before.  This was my first "big weekend" building up to a summer 100 miler and it went pretty well other then being a bit tired on the last couple of climbs of what would be just over 29 miles of running.  To get a greater feel for the run, check out the below write-ups.  It is a lot easier to post links than to write my own long story.  There are even a few pictures in there!  Enjoy!

Run with the Beavers Trail Race

I am directing (along with Karen Benway) a new trail race in Chepachet, RI.  Run with the Beavers will have a 10 miles option, a 5 mile option, and a 1/2 mile long fun run for children 12 & under.

I have been trying to get a trail race going on and off for almost 3 years now, but have had issues with area officials allowing us to run on the trails that we want.  I am excited that we were able to work with the park officials at Pulaski Memorial Park, in Chepachet.  The park has great facilities and is very clean.  The course has a great mix of single track, dirt roads, and double track trails.  Some are rocky, some are groomed, and depending on the weather, some may be wet.  It should make for a fun race.

Since Karen and I are both members of the Tuesday Night Turtles, we thought it was important to have a team event as part of the RTB.  So the 10 mile race will have a team competition.  The top 3 runners from each team will be scored cross country style and we will crown ourselves a champion!

So please join us on July 28th for some fun on the trails!

Training 1/1/12 to 1/7/12

I don't generally do training posts week in and week out, but figured I would give it a shot.  However I will just touch on key workouts/"interesting" runs and not the everyday grind.

1/1/12 - Hangover Classic 5 Mile Race - This went poorly, just wasn't feeling it.  Jumped in the bay after the race with some Turtles, then grabbed some grub at Aidan's Pub in Bristol, RI.

1/2/12 - Great trail run around Arcadia Managment Area - 15 miles

1/3/12 - Turtle night...turned into an upbeat adventure with the last 3 miles in 18:30

1/5/12 - Hill workout with DP and DJ.  1,2,1,2,1,2,1 mins

1/7/12 - Fun trail run
